How responsive is your startup to the needs of your customers? One of the easiest ways to meet the needs of your website visitors is to provide them with a mobile-friendly, responsive website. If yours isn’t, it’s time to get off the fence.

Mobile phone browsers

Did you know that most website browsing happens on mobile phones these days? These recent statistics show just how prevalent mobile browsing is:

  • Mobile and tablet devices accounted for 51.3% of internet usage worldwide in October.
  • Desktop accounted for 48.7% of internet usage worldwide in November.

These statistics were gathered from over 15 billion page views each month to over 2.5 million websites. If you have an older website that doesn’t resize to varying device sizes, you could be missing out on valuable website traffic. Many startup owners are comfortable with their website or the website formats of the past, and they don’t see a need to move forward. If this is the case, we can’t urge you enough to consider a responsive website today. It’s vital that your website look great on desktop, mobile phones and tablets. Your goal is to provide the absolute best user experience, and to do this, your website must resize to device width.

Ecommerce

You can bet if you offer Ecommerce, your customers want to shop your website on mobile. The mobile Ecommerce industry is exploding, and if you plan to sell your products or services online, you want to make it easy for your customers to shop from their phones. If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you are going to lose sales. Again, there’s no time for waiting. Make sure your site is responsive to various sizes of devices.

Google

You may have heard of Google’s Mobilegeddon last year. This is when Google decided it penalize sites that weren’t mobile friendly in search results. It turns out the Google cares a lot if your startup is mobile-friendly. It’s not just enough to build a website in the 21st century – you have to build the right kind of website – a mobile-friendly one. The purpose of creating a website for your startup is to get your products and services out on the worldwide web. But, if your site isn’t mobile friendly, you can’t count on Google to render it in search engine results pages.

To be competitive in the marketplace, a mobile-friendly site is a must. In addition to ranking mobile sites in search engines, Google also gives precedence to responsive sites in web searches from other devices. The bottom line is you depend on Google to show your website in searches, so you’ve got to do what it takes to help the process along – be mobile-friendly.

Google AdWords

If you are adverting your startup with Google AdWords, you need to know about responsive design ads. These are ads that resize based on device and placement. Google built these ads so your advertising dollars are spent wisely ,and your ads adapt to a diverse mix of screen sizes. What do their responsive ads have to do with your website? If your customers are clicking on mobile-friendly ads while using their smartphone, they expect to land on a mobile-friendly website as well. Again, responsive sites meet the needs of your customers.

Final thoughts

Your website is pivotal to your startup’s online marketing. In fact, it’s the centerpiece. Not only do you have to have a website before you launch your startup, but it must be mobile-friendly. Your customers will visit your website from their phone. They may even go to your site on their phones before they ever visit it from a desktop computer. There is no question. You must be mobile-friendly, today.
